Calibration Standards

Quality Control Policy

for
C.K. Tool Company, Inc.

A. Maintenance of inspection equipment

   1. Equipment for outside calibration
a. The pieces of equipment listed in table 1 will be identified with a unique I.D. number beginning with CK (CK1, CK2, CK3, etc.). They will be referred to as the CK standards

b. Most pieces of equipment listed in table 1 will be calibrated by an outside calibration company. C.K. Tool Company is currently using Teknet of San Jose, CA. as the outside calibrator. These pieces of equipment will be sent to Teknet for calibration at the time intervals specified on table 1. Doing this will give our equipment direct traceablity to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

c. The calibration certificates will be filed in their appropriate folder according to their “CK” I.D. number.

   2. Equipment for calibration in house
a. The tools listed in table 2 will be identified with a unique I.D. number starting at 001 (001, 002, 003, etc.)

b. The tools listed in table 2 will be calibrated by the employees of C.K. Tool Company. The employees will calibrate the tools against the “CK standards” which have been calibrated by the outside calibration company and are directly traceable to the NIST. The tools will be calibrated at the intervals as specified on table 2. The tools may be calibrated more frequently if the employee wishes, but the calibration forms in the log book only need to be filled in as stated in table 2. If the tool is dropped it will be calibrated before its next use.c. There is a calibration logbook, which is kept in the inspection room at C.K. Tool Company. The employees will calibrate their tools and log the results in the calibration logbook. Each tool has its own page in the log book.

B. Inspection of jobs in process

As a job is being run in the shop, the employee running that job will be responsible for checking the measurements on that particular job. The inspection tools being used should not be past their calibration due date. Leads or people from the Quality Control Department may make checks throughout the process of running a job to check critical dimensions.

C. Final inspection of complete parts
  1. Tools used for all final inspections will be maintained in the C.K. Tool calibration program.
  2. All final inspections will be done by a Lead or someone from the Quality Control Department.
  3. After a job comes back from an outside service (the plater, painter, grinder, etc.), and before packaging, the parts will receive a final inspection.
  4. Parts not sent for outside service will receive their final inspection as they come off the machine.
  5. If the final step in making a part involves degreasing or tumbling, an additional visual inspection will be done before the parts are packaged.
  6. The person performing the final inspection will sign the final inspection box on the traveler for that job.
  7. Only parts which pass final inspection will be shipped to the customer.
